The muscles in our face move throughout our lives and determine our facial expressions. Wrinkles develop over time as the effects of this constant activity become visible. Botulinum toxin can be used to conceal this ageing process and minimise expression lines on the face. Both fine and deeper wrinkles can be reduced or even disappear completely. Botulinum can reduce muscle activity in wrinkles caused by facial expressions, such as the frown lines between the eyebrows. The wrinkles are reduced or disappear completely, depending on the initial findings. This makes the facial features appear more relaxed. When used correctly, the results are completely natural.
Botox® works by weakening muscle activity. Stimuli are transmitted between nerves and muscle cells. This is the only way a muscle cell can contract and relax again. Botulinum inhibits the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which stimulates muscle activity. In this way, the active ingredient blocks the transmission of stimuli between the nerve cell and the muscle - the muscle remains relaxed.
Botulinum inhibits the release of this messenger substance for approx. 3-6 months. This makes the underlying skin smoother and reduces wrinkles.
In wrinkle treatment, Botox® is injected directly into the affected muscle area in a highly diluted dosage. The punctures are usually no longer visible after a few minutes and patients are immediately fit for socialising again.
The skin-smoothing effect develops over several days, after which The full effect is achieved after about two weeks. Over time, the Botox is broken down again by the body's own metabolic processes and the effect diminishes, so that a new treatment is recommended after approx. 4-6 months.
In many cases, it makes sense to combine botulinum toxin injections with other procedures. In our Hamburg practice, we attach great importance to the holistic optimisation of facial contours in order to achieve harmonious rejuvenation.
It is possible, for example, to treat frown lines with Botox® and to smooth it in the same session with a treatment with Hyaluronic acid in the cheek area to simultaneously optimise facial volumes and restore harmonious facial proportions.

As the medical use of botulinum toxin in neurology began back in the 1980s, we have a great deal of experience with this active ingredient.
Botox®-treatments are extremely safe and have few side effects. Possible side effects may include minor bruising from the injection, slight swelling and redness, which disappear very quickly.
Aesthetic impairments such as asymmetries or sagging eyebrows cannot be completely ruled out due to the individual anatomy of each patient, but are extremely rare with an experienced specialist. Specialists with the appropriate specialisation, such as Dr Nabavi, know the correct dosage and apply the injection to the correct muscle. This means that the face remains lively even after Botox treatment, without appearing mask-like.
