During the growth phase, the hair breaks through the corneal layer and becomes visible on the skin. If it fails to break through, the hair bends and grows back inwards. This can be favoured by frequent epilating and waxing, but also occurs with different hair types due to their constitution. Painful inflammation is often the result. Regular dry brushing and peelings with AHA or BHA help to reduce the corneal layer. Wearing loose clothing is also beneficial.

Laser hair removal is particularly effective in preventing new hair growth. This results in long-term improvement.
